AUDACITY

I’ve been talking to a lot of good people recently about the whole “working” thing. Unhappy people. Mad people. Fed up people. The exchange of hours for dollars.

Many smart friends of mine are bored and unchallenged at work. Even if there is a ladder to climb, moving up looks miserable.

So people are saving up money and quitting. They’re looking for employment elsewhere. They’re leaving in search of other things.

And when you talk to people about this, you get rolled eyes. You’re being selfish.

To have the audacity to quit? To look for other work? “You should be thankful to have a job,” they say. You should be happy that you’re still around after the company laid off 40% of the staff and dumped more work on you. You’re a team player, right?

No more.

Jobs are scarce, but the hours we have to live are, too. We’ve cancelled Netflix, sold our TVs, made our own lunches, brewed our own coffee. Enough is enough.

Why, yes… we do have the audacity to quit.
