I keep looking at job listings, but no one is hiring for someone to travel 100% of the time, meet amazing people, and build a media outlet from the ground up. I mean, I did that with Buzzgrinder a decade ago. I started Noisecreep with some great people back in 2008. But no one is activley hiring someone to take a chance on something completely unproven and see if it works out. Sure, I could start the Huffington Post of metal blogs, just scraping already written stories and highlighting interviews, but that’s about as fun as sandpapering my knees to their bones. Not very.

Alas - I hit the road tomorrow, bound for Boston, MA. I’m collecting stories from metal heads. Some bands, some behind the scenes folks, some folks who don’t even work in the metal biz. It’s going to be fun. And then I’m going to publish the stories and make millions of dollars. Or well, maybe a few bucks to stay on the road.

Years ago I thought the only way to play “concerts” was to get signed by a record label so I could open for Poison. Then a friend showed me the world of “hardcore.” Wait a second. Kids renting firehalls and putting on their own “concerts?” Wait, kids publishing their own magazines? Kids starting their own record labels? Like, run from their bedrooms?

Like when I spoke to Gabe a few weeks back, metal and hardcore albums were dangerous. They inspired you (or maybe they didn’t). They gave you permission to do something, anything, you wanted.

That’s what I’m doing now. Hello, 2012.
