My name is Seth W. and I've been a nomad since Aug 2010. Find out more about me here.
Leave Philadelphia, PA at 10pm. Found this place above around 8am in TN. Arrive in Knoxville, TN at about 11am. The plan was to take a bus to Nashville, TN at that point, but the next bus didn’t leave until about 8pm. So I scanned the schedule at the Greyhound Bus Station, for other cities where I could possibly crash. At noon a bus left for Columbus, OH, where my friend Amanda lives.
Bought a one way ticket. Sure, it was eight hours, (on top of the 13 hours I had just spent on the road from Philadelphia), but what the heck, right?
So now I’m in Columbus, OH. Way back on November 14, 2010 I was here, for one night and stayed with Blake. Now I’m here a little over a year later, still working the internet thing (been building a portfolio blog for my friend all day), and it’s still cold.

I carry all this to do what I do.

Above are my materials for creating Seth W. Robots. The only desk I have is that of my friends, or a coffee shop in whatever town, or the creaky plastic chair in a bus station. In a months time I’ve scraped an income from paper, Sharpie’s, and stamps.

      sarahsaturday:

I feel like I just won the lottery. And it’s funny, because I thought that winning the lottery would be the only way I’d ever be able to afford to do the things I want to do. Turns out that choosing to be poor was the shortcut I was looking for, and now I get to cash in.

This isn’t a real reblog, but I can’t find the permalink to properly link to Sarah’s original post where I got this quote, but I wanted to share.

I’ve been on the road since August 1, 2010, but this is what I carry these days.
1. Folder filled with important papers, files, drawings.
2. USPS Priority Envelope, filled with more drawings, envelopes, pens, paper.
3. Pouch from Uni-Glo shirt, used to carry my toiletries. Reduce and reuse!
4. Chrome Yalta bag.
5. Water Bottle for hydration purposes.
6. Red pouch - computer cables, charger for camera, etc.
7. Yellow pouch - socks. Yup. Just socks.
8. MacBook.
9. Orange pouch - four shirts, one pair of pants, one pair of undies.
Not shown are my shoes, jackets, hats, which I’m wearing when I travel. I’m currently in Philadelphia, PA right now. Hello from the road.

Money being saved. Plans being put into order. I’m leaving New York City again on January 1, 2012 and will be travelling once again. This time I hope to make it to the Pacific Northwest, and document my adventures in much bigger ways then before.

I’m travelling light, with basically my laptop, a digital camera and some clothes. I’ll be crashing with friends and eating lots of peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

If you’d like to contribute to my new adventures, ‘Life’s Not Soda Pressing,’ that’d be amazing.

NEW: Subscribe to ‘Life’s Not Soda Pressing,’ my new subscriber-only email list. More stories, more photos and even robot drawings. I’ll also mail the list (yes, actual mail) random photo prints and trinkets from the road.

Download my ‘Florida to Maine by Bike and Train’ ebook. It’s all about my adventure from Miami, FL to Portland, ME - 12 cities in 14 days.

Download my ‘Seven Months’ ebook. This is about my first seven months on the road. I sold over 200 copies of this.

And where did the title ‘Life’s Not Soda Pressing’ come from? Well, when I worked in a grocery store many years ago, a fellow worker, an older lady, was telling me some tragic story. Something bad that happened. I remember saying to her, “that’s so depressing,” and at that exact second I also looked at a stack of bottled soda.

At the time, I was also writing music, and I penned the song, ‘Life’s Not Soda Pressing.’ This is like, 1997 or 1998. Way back.

So really, life isn’t so depressing. Soda pressing. Get it?

And if you want a laugh, here’s a recording of the song, ‘Soda Pressing 2000.’
